Candy Hanson is a nonprofit management specialist, having served both as the CEO of the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation and the founding executive of Sioux Falls Thrive.
Hanson’s consulting practice began when she accepted challenges to design and facilitate community conflict management projects ranging from disputes between advocacy groups and law enforcement to NIMBY objections to proposed road expansion and quarry development projects.
Her collaborative, consensus-building tool kit led to successful restructuring, planning, and management initiatives for a wide variety of government entities, businesses, and nonprofits. While in private practice she led scores of state, regional, and internationally focused strategic planning processes.
Hanson is known locally for having designed and managed the last two iterations of Sioux Falls Tomorrow, a community-based planning project. Most recently she developed and conducted the "Effective Team Manager" training program for Sioux Falls Thrive.
Hanson holds a BA from the University of Kansas and completed post-graduate studies at Augustana College (now University) to meet requirements for state teacher certification. She is a graduate of the Advanced Facilitator Institute, Interaction Associates, San Francisco and received her MPA from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, which she attended as a Bush Fellow.
